Jerry Sloan has taken his name out of consideration for the head coaching job with the Charlotte Bobcats.
Sloan, who coached the Utah Jazz for 23 years before resigning midway through the 2010-11 season, was one of three finalists for the job in Charlotte.
On Thursday afternoon, however, Sloan told SI.com that he was no longer a candidate.
"I took myself out today," Sloan said. "I don't want to comment on it because it's never profitable for anybody. It just makes it sound like you're making a statement about someone. But they were wonderful and there were no problems. I just took myself out."
Sloan met with Charlotte owner Michael Jordan on May 25 in Utah.
The other two finalists to replace former Bobcats coach Paul Silas are Indiana assistant Brian Shaw and L.A. Lakers assistant Quin Snyder. SI.com reported that Shaw is the front-runner.
