Tooele County Sheriff's detectives Tuesday were asking for the public's help in finding whoever shot and killed a horse and burglarized a building and horse trailer.

Deputies said a man was feeding his horses early Monday morning near the Tooele city limits when he noticed a horse was missing from the corral and the gate was open.

Authorities said the man followed the horse's tracks and a blood trail through his pasture until he found the horse dead just south of Smelter Road.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the horse had been shot to death and found a shell casing near the corral, as well as evidence that the building and horse trailer had been burglarized.

Authorities said it appears the crime occurred Sunday night or Monday morning and are asking anyone with information to call them at 435-843-3199.
