Cooper Bateman and Max Browne should know each other well by now, and certainly will be even more familiar by their Sept. 7 nationally televised matchup.

The elite quarterbacks — Bateman from Cottonwood, Browne from Skyline (Wash.) — have competed against each other all summer, first at Elite 11 events and this weekend at Nike's "The Opening," a seven-on-seven drills camp that features 150 of the nations top high school players.

Two fo the six quarterbacks invited to the Beaverton, Ore., event, Bateman and Browne are inextricably linked, and their budding relationship is highlighted in an ESPN story by Mason Kelley.

Among the good nuggets pulled by Kelley, is this quote from former BYU quarterback Jake Heaps, who also went to Skyline and had a similar relationship with then-Oaks Christian quarterback Nick Montana.

"There is some competitiveness, but you have to look at the big picture," Heaps said. "This is a guy that's going through the same experiences you are. You really get a chance to make a connection and have a friendship."

Skyline travels to Cottonwood for an ESPN-brokered game on Sept. 7, just the Colts' third game under new head coach Greg Croshaw.
