Here's what's being talked about today in pop culture:

• The movie world is saying a fond farewell to Ernest Borgnine, who died Sunday at the age of 95. Borgnine won an Oscar for his title role in "Marty" in 1955, and appeared in such films as "From Here to Eternity," "The Wild Bunch," "The Dirty Dozen," "The Poseidon Adventure," "Escape From New York" and even recently in "Red." On TV, he starred in "McHale's Navy," and kids today recognize him as the voice of Mermaid Man on "SpongeBob SquarePants." [AP, via The Salt Lake Tribune]

• "The Amazing Spider-Man" netted $140 million at the box office over its six-day opening run. Other newcomers didn't fare so well: Oliver Stone's "Savages" came in fourth, while the concert doc "Katy Perry: Part of Me" took eighth. [Box Office Mojo]

• If you didn't already know Ron Perlman was the coolest actor in Hollywood, consider this: He spent four hours getting into his "Hellboy" makeup for a 6-year-old leukemia patient who requested to "meet and become Hellboy" through the Make-a-Wish Foundation. And, yes, the kid got to be made up like Hellboy, too. [The Hollywood Reporter]
