The clash of metal Saturday at Liberty Park heralded the United Clans Swordsman Association's annual sword fighting competition.

Association members competed in long sword, short sword, dagger and unarmed fighting and defense.

The group recently joined the Historical European Martial Arts Alliance.

The association's classes are taught on the east side of Liberty Park from noon to 3 p.m. every Saturday, regardless of weather.
