The Salt Lake City Public Library has released a mobile app for Android phones that allows patrons to place holds on books, browse the catalog and more. The app is similar to one the library system released for the iPhone. The library's apps can be downloaded from iTunes for the iPhone and the Google Play store for Android.
Hilton Garden Inn
opens in Ogden
The Hilton Garden Inn marked its grand opening this week in Ogden. The 120-room hotel is at 2271 Washington Blvd., adjacent to the Salmon Center and the Mexaplex theaters. The $13 million property offers 2,700 square feet of meeting space, fireplace suites, an indoor pool and hot tub, and a 24/7 business center.

to open in Orem
The first of six remodeled Utah Wendy's restaurants is opening Monday in Orem, followed by the Hunter store in West Valley City on July 30. Four other restaurants will be remodeled over the next two months in Kaysville, Kearns, Sandy and Centerville .
Alton Coal gets
safety award
Alton Coal Development, operator of the only surface coal mine in Utah, received an award from the Utah Labor Commission for running the safest surface-coal mine in Utah last year. The company had no accidents in 2011, said Kent Houghton, state director of Coal Mine Safety.
Wholesale prices
rose last month
U.S. wholesale prices increased slightly last month. Higher costs for food and pickups offset a drop in energy prices. Overall inflation stayed mild. The Labor Department said the producer price index increased 0.1 percent in June from May. The index measures price changes on goods before they reach the consumer.
FAA seeks Boeing
fine of $13.5M
The Federal Aviation Administration proposed to fine Boeing $13.6 million, its second-largest penalty ever, for delays in telling airlines how to prevent fuel-tank explosions on 383 aircraft. Boeing was given a Dec. 27, 2010, deadline to submit instructions on how to add explosion-prevention devices in its U.S.-registered 747 jumbo jets and 757 single-aisle planes. The company missed the deadline for 747s by 301 days, and 406 days for its 757s.

Apple says its products are going back on an environmental ratings registry, just weeks after saying it was withdrawing them from the list. The list from EPEAT — the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool — is considered an industry standard and helps customers buy environmentally friendly electronics. Apple says it made a mistake removing them from the list and "heard from many loyal Apple customers who were disappointed."
