To nobody's surprise, BYU junior wide receiver Cody Hoffman is on the 2012 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List. The honor goes to the top receiver in college football, and is named after former All-Pro NFL receiver Fred Biletnikoff. Among BYU opponents this season, Utah's DeVonte Christopher is also on the list, along with Oregon State's Markus Wheaton, Washington State's Marquess Wilson, San Jose State's Noel Grigsby, Boise State's Matt Miller and Notre Dame's TJ Jones. Check out this video starring Hoffman produced by BYUtv. The 6-foot-4 Hoffman caught 61 passes for 943 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, and also was the school's single-season leader in kickoff returns, 36, and yards, 879. I caught up with Hoffman at the recent BYU football media day and asked him what kind of goals he has set this season. "I don't have any personal goals," he said. "I just want to be the best player that I can be and contribute where the team needs me." Hoffman said there's a different vibe around the team this offseason, a bigger sense of urgency. "I would say the intensity is a lot different," he said. "A lot of people are showing up, and it is always good to show everybody that they want to win." The native of Crescent City, Calif., said "definitely speed" is the aspect of his game he's working to improve. "I feel like I need to be faster. But at the same time, I feel like I need to work on getting separation between me and the defender right before I catch the ball." Finally, I asked Hoffman which game he is most looking forward to this season. "Utah. I still want my revenge against them, and especially if it is my last year playing then I want to go out with a win," he said. "But then at the same time, I am really looking forward to the Notre Dame game, just because of all the history that place has. I was a big fan of Rudy growing up. I have always wanted to go there and see the place. So that is going to be kind of surreal for me."
