Jon Krakauer, author of Under the Banner of Heaven, was on a panel Sunday night in Salt Lake City discussing movie adaptations of investigations of religious extremism.

Other panelists at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center included private investigator Sam Brower, author of Prophet's Prey, a book about the FLDS Church, and Under the Banner of Heaven co-producer Shannon Costello.

Krakauer's book dovetails the history of the LDS Church and the 1984 double murder in Utah of Brenda Lafferty and her baby daughter, Erica, committed by Brenda's brothers-in-law Ron and Dan Lafferty, who were involved in a severely fundamentalist Mormon sect.

Dustin Lance Black, who is doing the screenplay adaptation of Krakauer's book, was a scheduled panelist but was unable to appear due to a scheduling conflict.
