A Sandy mother critically injured when she was hit by a car while recovering a fallen bicycle from Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon earlier this week continued to cling to life on Wednesday.
University Hospital records showed that Jennifer Strong, 30, remained in the hospital three days after the accident, but her family was not authorizing hospital staff to release updated details about her condition.
A news release from the family stated Strong remains in critical condition after suffering a "severe brain injury and numerous fractures."
Nathan Strong said his wife is the mother of four children ages 8, 6, 3 and 1.
The help the family has received from friends and others during this time "has been overwhelming," according to the statement
Nathan Strong said he and family are very appreciative of those who stopped to render aid at the scene and hope others can learn from their experience so similar accidents will be avoided.
Late Tuesday night, Strong's father, Donald Lively, posted an update on his Facebook page stating that his daughter's condition had been "stabilized at this point."
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said that Strong was riding in an eastbound pickup truck with her husband and several young children when it hit a bump and the bicycle fell off about 2 p.m. Monday.
The truck stopped and pulled over on the right side. Strong had retrieved the bike from the left lane and was on her way back to the truck when she was struck by a Nissan Sentra.
She was taken to University Hospital and underwent surgery for multiple broken bones and internal and head injuries.
The accident remained under investigation.
