Never say never, but it doesn't look like there will be an agreement between DirecTV and the Pac-12 Networks before Thursday's Utah-Northern Colorado game kicks off.

And perhaps not for some time to come.

DirecTV acknowledged that it remains in talks with the Pac-12 Networks and vowed to "continue to work toward an agreement that will be fair for both those customers who want to receive Pac-12 programming and those who don't."

Uh, oh. That doesn't sound good. And this part of the satellite provider's statement sounds even worse:

"The vast majority of Pac-12 football games featuring the most popular teams with national-title implications remain available to all DirecTV customers through the ESPN family of networks and ABC Sports, Fox Sports and FSN, FX, CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network and several other regional services."

No, that doesn't sound good. And, yes, that sounds like a veiled insult to Utah and a bunch of other Pac-12 schools.

The bottom line is - if you're a DirecTV subscriber and you want the Pac-12 Networks, you've got to call and complain. Which may or may not work.

Or, if you live in Utah, you'll have to switch to Comcast or another cable provider that's carrying P12N.

As for Dish Network - there's no news on that front, either. And in this case, no news is bad news.
