Throughout August, we tasted our way through 31 of Utah's finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shave ice. Today we offer our final pick.
Tempura-fried ice cream • Plunging frozen ice cream into hot oil sounds wrong, but it tastes so right. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is dipped in tempura batter and fried until golden. It's served with chocolate sauce, a bit of caramel and some mango puree for a crispy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside dessert.

Shop talk • Tsunami in Sugar House celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year. It offers a large selection of specialty and standard rolls, as well as an intriguing menu of small plates, rice bowls, salads and entrées, including the miso marinated Alaskan black cod and baby back ribs with jalapeño teriyaki sauce.
