A 66-year-old woman was critically injured Monday morning as she attempted to cross a Herriman street.

Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the woman was in the middle of the road in a crosswalk about 8:55 a.m. at 4990 W. 14400 South when she was struck by a GMC Yukon.

Hoyal said the driver of the Yukon had stopped at the intersection and was attempting to turn left when the crash happened. She told officers that she didn't see the 66-year-old, he said.

Hoyal said the 66-year-old was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition, but had since been upgraded to critical.

He said police are investigating, but don't believe drugs, alcohol or speed were factors. He said investigators will present the matter to the District Attorney's Office to determine if charges are appropriate.
