Unified police have arrested two people in connection with a pepper spray-like assault that injured more than 80 people at a Riverton Walmart Saturday.
Police said they arrested Jordan Ryan Crane, 20, of Herriman, and Madison Valerie Durrant, 20, of Riverton, on suspicion of causing the incident at 13502 S. Hamilton View (3600 West) that forced an emergency evacuation of dozens of customers about 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
Police said the duo went around the store spraying a pepper spray-like substance typically used for self-defense. In all, emergency officials reported 80 people were treated at the scene, and three were treated at area hospitals.
Police initially thought they were looking for three suspects and said a tip came in about 9 p.m. Saturday that led them to all three at a Herriman home. But officials determined the third person was actually a victim whom Crane had allegedly tried to spray during the spree. That person was questioned and released.
Crane was arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats, causing a catastrophe — both second-degree felonies, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of obstructing justice, all third-degree felonies and 81 counts of assault, all class B misdemeanors.
Durrant was arrested on suspicion of obstructing justice, a third-degree felony and one count of assault, a class B misdemeanor.
