A woman was killed Friday afternoon in northern Sanpete County when her car went off the road.

Cheryl Turner, 46, of Sanpete County, was heading north on U.S. 89 in Indianola just before 1 p.m. when she drove off the shoulder while taking the eastbound exit toward the community of Hideaway Valley, Utah Highway Patrol investigators say.

On Hideaway Valley Road, she drove for a short distance and ran off that road's shoulder, crashing into a large metal sign support.

The UHP says speed wasn't a contributing factor in the crash and is still investigating all possible causes. Turner was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer and was not wearing a seat belt.
