Last Sunday, R. Dennis Hansen wrote, "It's time to get real about saving water" (Opinion, Sept. 23). As a manager for MediaOne, I drive all over the east bench to ensure delivery of newspapers. I see that many people still have their automatic sprinkler systems running near the end of September. I see a lot of wasted water running in the streets.

Hansen gave many examples of what is being done to reduce indoor water use. Why are we not getting serious about outdoor water use this late in the year, especially when we know it will hurt us later?
