The Utah Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee is taking public comment on recent judicial appointment Barry G. Lawrence.

Gov. Gary Herbert appointed Lawrence earlier this year to replace 3rd District Judge William Barrett, who will retire in November. The 3rd District includes Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.

Lawrence has worked as an assistant Utah attorney general since 2000. He previously worked at the Salt Lake City firm Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough, where he was a shareholder and served on the board of directors.

Public comments should be sent to Mike Christensen at the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel, Utah State Capitol Campus, House Building, Suite W210, PO Box 145210, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-5210. All statements should include the respondent's name, telephone number, and mailing address. The deadline for comment is 5 p.m. Oct. 5.

The Senate confirmation committee will hold a 9 a.m. public hearing to discuss Lawrence's appointment on Oct. 10. A vote on confirmation from the Senate is likely to take place Oct. 17.
