Two women injured after their car was struck from the side by a pickup truck Wednesday are improving after they were initially listed in critical condition.
West Valley City residents Mefia Maama, 26, and Amelia Maama, 25, were in a southbound Mazda making a left turn onto Bangerter Highway from 1820 South when their car was struck at about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.
They were admitted to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. Hospital spokesman Jess Gomez said Saturday that both women were still listed as patients but had been upgraded to serious condition.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said on Thursday that no citations had been issued in the crash, although witnesses told troopers that the 57-year-old driver of the pickup, a Kearns man, had run a red light before hitting the car.
UHP spokesperson Susan Thomas said Saturday that she wasn't sure whether any citations had been issued.
