• "Hotel Transylvania" was a monster hit this weekend, taking $43 million at the box office to set a September record in spite of mediocre reviews. [Box Office Mojo]

• Stephen Barton, one of the 58 people injured when a gunman opened fire during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo., speaks in a public-service announcement urging both President Barack Obama and Gov.
