A man was in good condition Wednesday, the day after he was hit by a car as he crossed a dark road near Lake Point.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Blaine Prescott said that the 53-year-old victim, believed to be homeless, was flown by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray shortly after being hit about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday. The accident occurred near where State Road 36 and Saddleback Road meet.
Initially listed in critical, he later was upgraded. Other than a broken ankle, his injuries consisted of bumps and bruises.
Prescott said the man was crossing west to east along SR-36, wearing dark clothing, and in an area without street lights or a crosswalk when he was struck.
No citations were issued. Prescott said it appeared the driver simply did not see the man until it was too late, though the driver did attempted to swerve before striking the man with "a glancing blow" from his front right bumper.
