Unified Fire Authority crews rushed to the scene of a two-alarm residential fire in the Millcreek area late Thursday morning.

UFA spokesman Cliff Burningham said two families — four people in one unit, two in the other — were evacuated without injury. The Red Cross was assisting them with food, clothing and shelter.

The blaze was reported at 11:19 a.m. and firefighters had it out within half an hour. However, Burningham estimated damages in excess of $100,000 to the two homes at 804 E. Red Maple Road (3780 South).

The cause of the blaze — which also burned a car outside the duplex and at one point threatened a neighboring duplex — was still under investigation, but appeared to be accidental.
