Community leaders gathered Wednesday to take part in the annual daffodil planting that honors gun violence victims as part of the YWCA's Week Without Violence.

This year's planting at Tracy Aviary focused on the effect of gun violence on children and families.

In a prepared statement, Mayor Ralph Becker said the impact of gun violence is far reaching and devastates families. "Through prevention and education strategies, we can work together to help prevent the senseless injury caused by gun violence," he said.

The YWCA Week Without Violence, held annually during the third week of October, aims to raise awareness of violence in homes and communities.
