An 18-year-old man is charged with taking a boy's property, then assaulting his father when he asked for the property back.

The man was charged Tuesday with robbery, tampering with a witness and aggravated assault in 3rd District Court.

On Oct. 9, the man and another male approached a 14-year-old boy at a park at 3270 South 8400 West in Magna, took his iPod, headphones, notebook and pencils, and told the boy "they would find him" if he called the police, according to the charges.

The boy called his father. He, his little sister and the father went to a home near 8500 West 2700 South, where the boy's father had seen two males matching the description of the ones who had allegedly robbed his son.

The boy said they were the same ones, and his father asked that the two return the property. But they threw rocks at him and hit him with a large board instead, the charges state.

The males tried to run away, one of them running into the boy's little sister in the process, but police arrived and took both males into custody.
