Epic Brewing company earned just one medal at this year's Great American Beer Festival (see my previous post). Still the Salt Lake City micro-brewery was able to create quite a buzz in the Denver beer community this weekend.
According to this post on the beerpulse.com blog, Epic Brewing Co. Head Brewer, Kevin Compton, told the press that the Utah-based microbrewery plans to open a second brewery, in Denver, sometime in 2013.
A lease in currently being negotiated and the new facility would have the capacity to produce 15,000 barrels of beer, about what the company can currently produces at its Salt Lake City brewery, reporter Adam Nason wrote.
No doubt Epic turned to beer-friendly Denver after it's Utah neighbors proved to be uncooperative.
Earlier this year Epic had hoped to expand it's Salt Lake City operations at 825 S. State St. It purchased residential homes east of the brewery and approached the city about re-zoning the property so it could create a parking lot and turnaround. The additional property would enable Epic to expand on the north side of the existing building. But after homeowners complained, the rezoning request was denied.
Now Utah's loss is Denver's gain.
