Two people on a motorcycle were critically injured when they went off Interstate 15 and the bike flipped Friday morning near St. George.
A husband and wife from Farmington were driving the motorcycle south on I-15 on their way to California when the husband, who was driving, suddenly went off the highway at mile post 7, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ted Tingey. He went into the center median, lost control of the motorcycle and it flipped, throwing the two off, Tingey said.
The 61-year-old husband, who was wearing a helmet, suffered severe internal injuries. His 64-year-old wife suffered severe head trauma. A second helmet was at the scene, but investigators were not sure whether she had been wearing it, Tingey said.
The husband was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center and the wife to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, both in critical condition.
UHP is still investigating the cause of the accident, but do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved.
