A man who was hunting in the Locomotive Springs area south of Snowville accidentally shot himself in the chest with a black powder rifle, according to the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office.

The 53-year-old Roy man was trying to take the rifle from the back seat of a truck when the gun fired about 10 a.m. Saturday. He was hit in the upper right chest. The man was able to drive himself to an area north of Locomotive Springs and called 911. The man was taken by helicopter to an Ogden hospital in critical condition, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
