Getting running back John White more touches was emphasized against Oregon State, now it's backup Kelvin York's turn. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said York, who rushed 10 times for 52 yards against the Beavers, has closed the gap on White and will get more carries in the future. He now considers them '1A and 1B,' on his depth chart. "John is running hard and doing things similar to what he did for us last year, but Kelvin will get a lot of carries going forward," Whittingham said. White rushed 20 times for 68 yards against the Beavers but 29 yards came on one play. He also dropped a pass on a third-and-seven play in the first quarter. At 5-foot-11, 223-pounds, York is a more physical running back than the 5-8, 188-pound White. "When we recruited him way back when, we saw terrific things on film," Whittingham said of York. "He is running now the way we had hoped he would. I said this earlier in the press conference, that there are going to be a lot more opportunities for him going forward and that is taking nothing away from John but we feel good about the 1-2 punch we have." Despite a 4-game losing streak, Whittingham continues to find the positives in his team, noting he liked the progression that freshman quarterback Travis Wilson made Saturday. Wilson had some glaring errors, particularly his fumble and two interceptions but Whittingham said not all the mistakes were his fault and overall he continues to be impressed with the quarterback's play. The one area in which he needs to improve is being more patient on the draw plays. "He needs to let them develop more before he pulls the ball down and hits it," he said. "Travis does have a good capability of running. He doesn't have a lot of mileage, but he does have the ability to run the ball and do some things." Whittingham and the players in attendance at Monday's press conference all said they feel pressure to win four of their next five to keep Utah's bowl appearance streak alive. "We feel like we can win in this conference," tight end Jake Murphy said. "I hear people say we may take a couple years to get the athletes in the Pac-12 but we feel like we can do that right now and if we can put it altogether we feel like we can make this bowl game and do some damage in the last couple games." Murphy, who had four catches for 42 yards Saturday, will continue to get more balls thrown his way, particularly since senior DeVonte Christopher is in a 'funk,' as Whittingham put it. "He has to fight his way out of that and work his way into the rotation," Whittingham said. Whittingham announced that safety Quade Chappuis, who started while Brian Blechen was serving a three-game suspension, has a season-ending shoulder injury and is done for the year. Chappuis did not play in the last two games. He finished the year with 23 tackles and a forced fumble. Out for at three-to-four weeks is starting left guard Jeremiah Tofaeono who left the Oregon State game with an injury. He will be replaced by junior Vyncent Jones, who just returned from the injured list himself. Offensive lineman Latu Heimuli, who has not played in the last three games, continues to be sidelined, Whittingham said. - Lya Wodraska
