Overstock.com, the well-known online discount retailer, reported higher revenue and earnings for the third quarter of its 2012 fiscal year.

The company said its revenue for the quarter hit $255.4 million, a 7 percent increase from the same quarter of fiscal 2011 when revenue was $239.7 million.

Third quarter net income was $2.7 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with a loss of $7.8 million, or 33 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.

Overstock.com reported that its sales and marketing expense for the recently completed third quarter was $14.9 million, an 8 percent increase from last year's third quarter.
