Can anyone beat Duchesne?

That's the guiding question of the Class 1A bracket. Diamond Ranch, Summit Academy and even Rich are among the schools that think they might have a shot. But first each of them has to prove it can win its way there.

As always, we have to thank football fanatic George Felt, whose depth of high school football knowledge in this state makes everyone a little bit more informed. Some nuggets from his weekly release, Felt's Facts, are included in this guide.

CLASS 1A

Best match-up: Summit Academy at Monticello

The Grizzlies got a humbling lesson at the hands of the Buckaroos last they met, falling 20-17 on the road. Summit Academy will have to visit the same field where it suffered that defeat and hope for a different result. Led by quarterback Christian Miller and running back Brodi Strong, the Grizzlies will hope for a better offensive outing. Monticello will have to counter that attack with an excellent game from Austin Malloy if it hopes to continue its quest.

The best of the rest

Milford at Duchesne • The last time these teams met, the Eagles won 47-6 and were leading 40-0 after the first quarter. It seems unlikely that Duchesne's 31-game winning streak will end here.

Monument Valley at Rich • Another game that could be pretty uncompetitive. Monument Valley hasn't beaten a team with a winning record, while Rich has cultivated a powerful rushing attack behind Austin Groll and Kaden Thompson.

Altamont at Diamond Ranch • The Longhorns will attempt to avoid being snakebitten for the second time this season after suffering a 20-19 loss to the Rattlers earlier this year. Altamont will turn to Kyle Foy, one of the more prolific backs in 1A with 1,441 yards and 13 touchdowns this year. Diamond Ranch is on a hot streak, winning its last five games. Eight players have multiple sacks, and Ryan Ong has proven to be a capable quarterback.
