State colleges: Utah swimmers split with Arizona State

The Utah men's swim team defeated Arizona State 158-122 in a dual meet Sunday in Phoenix, while the Ute women lost 154-121 to the Sun Devils.

Utah's Nick Soedel swept the sprint freestyle events, touching in 1 minute, 41.08 seconds in the 200-yard free, 20.43 in the 50 free and 44.80 in the 100 free.

Utah's Bence Kira'ly also won three events: the 400 individual medley (3:57.84), the 1,000 free (9:23.77) and the 500 free (4:34.57).

On the women's side, Utah's Kersten Merry won in 1-meter diving, and Giuliana Gigliotti won the 100 freestyle (51.75).

Arizona 81, Weber State 49 • In Tucson, Ariz., freshman guard Brittney Newcomb scored a career-high 20 points for the Wildcats (0-9).
