After the Newtown, Conn., massacre, an 11-year-old student in Salt Lake City brings a handgun to school to protect himself ("11-year-old Utah boy jailed for bringing gun to Kearns school," Tribune, Dec. 18). What in the world is going on?

How does this student get hold of a gun? Where is the gun lock case? Where is the licensed gun owner, and where is the parent?

The student may well be expelled from regular school and placed in an alternative school. Where is the child-endangerment indictment for the irresponsible parent?
