The Aggies are bringing in three recruits next year, but they might not be done yet.
Over the weekend, Utah State basketball team offered Rashad Muhammad, a 6-foot-4 senior out of Bishop Gorman (Nev.). He averaged 8.6 points per game last year as a junior and shot over 40 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Oh, does that name sound kind of familiar? It should: His big brother's name is Shabazz. You may have heard of him. He goes to UCLA and might be an NBA lottery pick next year.
But onto Rashad, who despite interest from Maryland, UNLV and SMU, has only one offer so far — from the Aggies. Utah State is trying to secure its back court for the future. Preston Medlin, Spencer Butterfield, TeNale Roland, Danny Berger and Marvin Jean will all be gone after the 2013-14 season. That's quite a graduating class, one that could leave the cupboard quite bare at the guard position.
Jalen Moore is signed on next year, but he'll be the only guard in the incoming 2013 class, and at 6-foot-8, that's a stretch of the definition. Sam Merrill of Bountiful is committed in the 2014 class, but he's likely to go on an LDS Church mission on the outset, so don't plan on seeing him for a while.
Utah State needs guards, and so far, the Aggies are the only ones at the table for Muhammad, a somewhat gangly teen who plays for a strong program and could have room for improvement.
