It's going to be another week and a half before Salt Lake radio listeners hear Erin Collard on the air.

The better-looking half of "Todd and Erin" on B98.7 reports to The Cricket about her current health issues, which have kept her silent and off the radio since mid-December.

"After a delightful afternoon of a scope snaking through my nostril and down my throat, I apparently have tracheitis and laryngitis," Collard wrote in an email this morning. "I am not allowed to speak for two weeks, and the doctor really scared the crap out of me. She said I likely damaged my voice already and if I don't shut up, I could lose it all together. Little scary, since, um...this is my entire CAREER."

Collard observed that, "since I stopped talking, people have stopped looking at me in conversations and leave me out of decision making. I have a whole new empathy for folks who can't speak."

But home life is another matter. "The worst part is at home: our evil 12-year-old twins — Zachie and MacLean — have always operated on the theory that if they can't HEAR me say 'no!' they're technically not disobeying me. So now that I'm speechless, they're partying like it's 2099."

Collard aims to be back talking on Jan. 22.
