Santa Clara, Calif. • The BYU Cougars stayed unbeaten in West Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't easy as the final score makes it appear.

Tyler Haws scored 24 points and Brock Zylstra added 15 as the Cougars held off the Santa Clara Broncos 82-64 at the Leavey Center.

Matt Carlino and Brandon Davies added 13 points apiece for BYU, which had a 41-32 halftime lead.

Santa Clara came out hot in the second half, and tied it at 50-50 on a free throw by Kevin Foster with about 13 minutes left. Foster became the WCC's career 3-point leader in the game, and finished with 22 points.

But BYU then went on an 18-0 run to win going away.

The Cougars improved to 4-0 in WCC play, 14-4 overall; Santa Clara dropped to 1-3 in the league, 12-6 overall.
