A soccer director and her husband are accused of stealing money from the Southern Utah Soccer Association's youth recreational soccer program.
Cedar City police said they arrested Rhonda Case, 42, of Cedar City, on suspicion of third-degree felony theft, which means the amount stolen is between $1,500 and $5,000. They also cited her husband, Jeffrey Case, 49, with a class B misdemeanor theft charge. Formal charges have not been filed.
Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden said Rhonda Case had access to the funds for youth soccer program KICKS, which serves youth ages 4 to 19, since May of 2011, but authorities don't know exactly how long she had been stealing money from the program.
Police said they started investigating missing funds in September 2012, when KICKS board members discovered discrepancies in their accounting.
Authorities said Rhonda Case stole the funds by withholding donations and revenues and using the money for personal use. Roden said Case apparently took a little bit at a time so it would go undetected.
