Utah's fall camp will not feature one of its premier talented returning starters — at least for the time being.

University of Utah athletics announced in a news release Monday morning that junior strong safety Chase Hansen "is unavailable to practice until further notice." The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive back was the leading tackler and an honorable All-Pac-12 mention for the Utes in 2016.

No reason was given for what is hinted as Hansen's temporary absence. It is program policy not discuss a player's injury unless it is season-ending.

The former Lone Peak High School quarterback transitioned to safety on a full-time basis his sophomore season and made an instant impact.

Hansen started all 13 games last season and was tied for second in the nation in fumble recoveries (four). His team-leading 90 total tackles, passes defended (12) and pass breakups (nine) ranked in the top 12 among the three statistical categories in the Pac-12.

Hansen is a former high school all-American during his time at Lone Peak and was The Salt Lake Tribune's Class 5A Player of the Year in 2011.

Another note from the same Utah athletics release: Weekly depth charts will not be issued throughout the duration of Utah's fall camp.
