HB294, HB297 • The House passed two bills Friday that may soon allow cars to pass bicycles and mopeds by crossing yellow lines in the center of roads.

"The comment I usually get is, 'Isn't that already legal?' No, it's not," said Rep. Johnny Anderson, R-Taylorsville, who sponsored both HB294 and HB297. They both passed 69-0 and now go to the Senate.

HB294 allows crossing a double yellow line for such passing on two-lane roads. HB297 allows crossing yellow lines on multilane highways. Both bills allow such passing only when it is safe.
