Logan • Fueled by a national television appearance and possibly the last game of a bitter rivalry, Utah State ran out to a hot start.

It didn't last.

Utah State led 19-5 over visiting New Mexico State, but the "other" Aggies made it a game, tying it in the final minutes. Twenty minutes in, only a 3-pointer by Marcel Davis gave Utah State a 40-37 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Another tremendous offensive outing by Spencer Butterfield paced Utah State. The junior guard scored 15 in the opening half. Jarred Shaw added 10 by muscling in the post early to help give the hometown Aggies the edge.

But an 11-0 run by New Mexico State brought the gap back to single digits, where it stayed. Unheralded backup Remi Barry had a team-leading 10 points to help bring the visiting Aggies within striking distance.

Tonight's game is featured on ESPNU.
