A Winter Storm Watch was issued for the Wasatch Front south of Interstate 80, from Park City south through Provo and Nephi to just north of Price, as well as southeastern Utah's Monticello area. Forecasters predicted 1-2 feet of mountain snow and 3-8 inches in the lower elevations.
A Winter Weather Advisory covered Zion National Park and environs where 1-3 inches of snow was expected.
The Utah Division of Air Quality rated Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Utah, Duchesne and Uintah counties at "Green," or healthy for breathability through the mid-week. Cache County was given a "Yellow," or compromised air quality grade.
Tuesday's highs in northern Utah were pegged in the low-40s with rain and snow expected in the evening. More snow showers were on the menu throughout Wednesday.
Southern Utahns looked for highs in the mid- to upper-50s under partly cloudy skies with winds of 15-25 mph with rain showers likely off and on through Wednesday.
Avalanche danger was rated at "moderate" for all mountain locations, the Utah Avalanche Center said.
Salt Lake City's high of 42 was to be followed Wednesday by a daytime reading of 34 degrees; Ogden looked for 39 and 33 degrees, respectively; Provo 42 and 38; Logan 30s; Wendover 36 and 34; Duchesne 33 and 32; Cedar City 49 and 36; St. George 61 and 49; and Moab 51 and 43 degrees.
