• Former Boise State and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins has been hired to coach the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL. He succeeds Marc Trestman, who was hired as the Chicago Bears' coach last month. Trestman led the Alouettes to Grey Cup titles in 2009 and 2010 and was the CFL's coach of the year in 2009. Hawkins has never coached in the CFL. He was 19-39 at Colorado and 53-11 at Boise State and has an overall coaching record of 112-61-1.
Mike Miller, the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator last season, will be on the Alouettes' coaching staff.

• The Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco's agent plan to meet this weekend in their first attempt to reach a new contract for the Super Bowl MVP.
After the team and Flacco couldn't agree on a new deal last summer, Flacco played out the final year of his rookie contract and struck it big. Flacco made less than $6.76 million in 2012, and even if the Ravens put a franchise tag on him, he would at least double that salary for next season.

Sounders acquire Joseph from Chivas
soccer • The Seattle Sounders have acquired seven-time MLS all-star Shalrie Joseph in a trade with Chivas USA. The Sounders and Chivas completed the trade on Tuesday. Joseph will occupy a designated player slot on the Sounders roster. Seattle also acquired two future draft picks and a higher allocation spot in the trade.
Joseph is a 10-year veteran of the MLS, spending most of his career with New England before a trade to Chivas last season. Joseph has four times been named to the MLS Best XI team and was a finalist for league MVP in 2009.
His time with Chivas was expected to come to an end after new coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola announced at the start of training camp that Joseph was not in the club's future plans.
