Las Vegas • Stephanie Seaborn scored a career-high 21 points and Jennifer Hamson added 19 as BYU defeated Loyola Marymount 69-57 on Friday afternoon in a West Coast Conference tournament women's basketball quarterfinal game.
The Cougars (21-9) will play regular-season champion Gonzaga in a semifinal game at 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Orleans Arena.
Seaborn was 7 for 13 from 3-point range, setting career highs in attempts and makes, as the Lions focused their defense on stopping BYU's 6-foot-7 junior center Hamson inside.
Hamson was 8 for 14 from the field and added 13 rebounds. Kim Beeston chipped in 13 points as the Cougars made 13 of 28 3-point attempts.
LMU defeated BYU 68-55 last week in Los Angeles to knock the Cougars from the second seed to the fourth seed for the tournament.
The Cougars led by as many as 12 points in the first half and had a 35-26 lead at halftime.
They scored the game's first five points, only to see LMU go on an 8-0 run to take the lead.
But a 12-0 run that started midway through the first half put BYU ahead, fueled by Seaborn's 3-point shooting. The Cougars maintained at lead of six points or more throughout the remainder of the game.
