Dallas • Despite a thrilling final minute, in which they cut an 11-point deficit to 3, the Utah Jazz lost for the 12th time in 15 games, falling 113-108 to the Dallas Mavericks,

Two days after taking San Antonio to the wire, the Jazz lost their ninth consecutive road game, the longest such streak since 1981-82, when they lost 17 games on the road between November and February.

The Jazz and Mavericks were locked in a back-and-forth game half-way through the third quarter. The game had featured 23 lead changes, was tied seven times. But after Al Jefferson tied the game at 69 with a hook shot, the Mavericks went on a 20-2 run and led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz closed the game in a flurry. They went on a 21-9 run in the final 3:12, and cut the lead to 111-108 with 7 seconds remaining after a three-point play by Gordon Hayward.

Despite a dominant post performance, couldn't keep up with a Mavs team led by spry 37-year-old point guard Mike James. James, who was praised by Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin before the game, scored a season-high 19 points.

A Jazz comeback attempt came unhinged with 8:55 left in the fourth quarter, when Derrick Favors was called for a foul on a Shawn Marion shot. Enes Kanter blocked the attempt, but was called for a technical foul for basket interference. The basket counted and Corbin received a technical as well.

In short, it turned into a five-point play and put the Mavericks up 94-75.

The Jazz led by as many as seven in the first half, but after going up 42-35, they couldn't increase the advantage. Marvin Williams missed a dunk and Vince Carter hit a 3-pointer on the other end for a five-point swing. The Jazz were outscored 18-10 to close the second quarter.
