A 22-year-old woman was struggling for her life Wednesday, the day after she was struck by a car while crossing a poorly lit Midvale street.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said that Cecily Fields and a female friend were not in an intersection or in a crosswalk when they attempted to run across seven traffic lanes near 7948 S. State Street. Fields was hit by a car driven by a 20-year-old female.

Both Fields and her friend had been drinking before the 9:23 p.m. accident, police said.

No citations were issued to the driver, who stopped at the scene to render assistance.

Hoyal said the accident would be investigated by UPD and the results will be turned over to the district attorney's office to determine if any charges are warranted.

Fields was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in extremely critical condition, but her vital signs had been stabilized as of Wednesday and she was updated to critical condition.
