St. George police responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress to find the homeowner holding the intruder at gunpoint.

Police Sgt. Sam Despain said that early Thursday morning, the homeowner heard someone moving around inside his house on Lone Rock Drive. When he went to investigate, a pistol in hand, he surprised the 29-year-old male intruder.

"The homeowner … gave [the intruder] orders to lie on the ground and not move. [He] complied with the orders and remained on the ground until officers arrived," Despain said.

The intruder, believed to have entered the home through an unlocked back door, was arrested and booked into Washington County Jail, where he remained without bond Friday on suspicion of residential burglary and theft.

No charges were anticipated against the homeowner.
