Police have identified a Brigham City woman who died when an out-of-control car plowed into her and her three grandchildren.
Brigham City police Lt. Mike Nelsen said Debra Mercer, 59, died in a hospital of her injuries shortly after the Thursday afternoon accident near the intersection of 700 South and Main Street in Brigham City.
Nelsen said Friday that the children — a 7-year-old girl, a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy — sustained scrapes and bruises but had been released from the hospital to their parents.
A collision between two vehicles caused one car to come up onto a sidewalk, striking Mercer and the children.
The car that hit them was driven by an 87-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries. Nelsen said the woman was turning left from Main Street onto 700 South when an oncoming vehicle hit the woman's car, causing it to careen onto the sidewalk.
Nelsen said the Brigham City Attorney's Office was screening charges against the driver, and she was likely to at least be cited for failure to yield.
