After reading "Survey: 83% of Salt Lake-area leaders oppose lifting Boy Scouts' gay ban" (Tribune, March 26), the board of directors of the OUTreach Resource Center in Ogden felt the need to comment on working with youth, which we do.

Although the headline was dramatic, the poll's low 11 percent response rate by Boy Scout leaders tells any reasonable person that more data should have been obtained on this controversial issue to reflect the true feelings of all leaders.

At OUTreach, we work hard to prevent bullying and exclusion attitudes that lead to violence and tragic suicides among our youth. Teaching our kids should be about compassion, respecting differences and helping all kids feel safe and loved in whatever activity they participate.
