Captain America, meet the Sundance Kid. And salute, because he's your boss.

It's definite now: Robert Redford will be appearing in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," the latest in the Marvel Comics character's movie line, due in theaters in April 2014.

According to Spinoff Online, Redford confirmed this during a press roundtable while promoting "The Company You Keep," a political thriller Redford directed and stars in.

Redford said he will play "the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the top-flight government agency that oversees the Avengers. In other words, he'll be Nick Fury's boss.

"The 'Captain America' thing is just a very simple thing," Redford said. "I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it's bold in terms of expectations, I guess."

The cast will be led by Chris Evans as Capt. Steve Rogers (a k a Captain America) and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. "Avengers" co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Cobie Smulders will reprise their roles. Also in the cast: Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Max Hernandez.
