Salt Lake City's famous high-rise couple added a second egg to their nest box on the Joseph Smith Memorial Building sometime early Monday.
The peregrine falcons of downtown Salt Lake City laid the first egg of the 2013 clutch Friday. Both egg-laying scenes were captured on high-definition cameras installed in the nest box and broadcast around the world via Internet.
Three of the four eggs laid last year at this time hatched. One of the young falcons died while learning to fly after multiple crashes into downtown buildings. Another survived the crashes, but seemed injured and was sent to a raptor rehabilitation center in Colorado. That bird was returned to Utah this spring and released on Antelope Island. The released falcon has not been spotted again.
