A woman was in fair condition after she was struck in her wheelchair while in a crosswalk at a downtown intersection just after noon Friday.

Salt Lake City police Det. Veronica Montoya said the 56-year-old woman did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was conscious, breathing and communicative when she was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The female driver of the Dodge Charger which hit the woman near 400 South and 400 East was not injured. She was, however, cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Montoya said the driver told police that the wheelchair was in her blind spot as she made a left turn into the crosswalk, and that she did not see the victim until it was too late to stop.
