American Fork • Bingham managed to draw a leadoff walk four times in Wednesday afternoon's baseball game against American Fork and had nothing to show for it.

Who says leadoff walks will kill you?

Braxton McKee, that's who.

It was his leadoff walk, one of five American Fork freebies, that started a five-run inning that helped the Miners beat the Cavemen 5-3.

"We only scored in one of those innings," Bingham coach Joe Sato said. "That's the way the year's gone. We were fortunate that we had some guys who haven't been swinging the bat that well get a couple of hits and put it in play.

"Ryan's [Llewelyn] hit was huge for him. It was nice to see him come through. For the No. 9 hitter to get a hit with bases loaded was great for our ballclub."

After McKee drew a walk to start the third inning, his teammates jumped on board. Jacob Druce followed with a double before an RBI single from Lance Harrison. T.J Bowcutt then drove in a run the hard way when he was beaned with the bases loaded to give Bingham a 2-0 lead.

Llewelyn then came up with the big hit of the game when he split the gap in left-center for a three-run double.

Meanwhile Bingham starting pitcher Brennon Lund didn't look like he was making his first start in three weeks. He held American Fork to just two hits through the first five innings before he ran into trouble in the sixth.

Brock Lamb singled in two runs to get the Cavemen on the board. Soto then gave the ball to Harrison, who promptly got the Miners out of the sixth.

American Fork came back for more in the bottom of the seventh. Zach Haws, who was the only player in the game with two hits, led off the seventh with a single and scored on a Sean Hardman ground ball. But that was as close as the Cavemen could get.

Bingham (5-3 in region) is in position to sweep the three-game season series against American Fork (6-2) if the Miners can win Friday. —
