In "Guns in the streets" (Forum, May 2), Peggy Hoeppner accused the National Rifle Association of wanting to arm "every man, woman, child and school teacher in the nation" so that "every citizen should be gun-ready at all times."

The NRA does not justify arming every man, woman and child. It doesn't even care if you own a gun. What it does care about is your constitutional right to do so. Just as they care about your rights to free speech and freedom of the press.
